Highlights from the Annual Don Bosco Techfest at Don Bosco Institute of Technology
Don Bosco Institute of Technology (DBIT), Kurla, which is celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco and the Golden Jubilee of the institution, is launching its annual online technical fest on the 21st and 22nd of February 2015 called Teknack, with the theme 'Sustainability'.
Think of a tech fest, and a crowd gathering inside a college campus running around all over the place to win prizes. DBIT brings a turnabout to this run-of-the-mill concept by organizing a tech fest that is entirely online. To reduce the carbon footprint, Teknack 2015 aims to build awareness on the subject of “Sustainability”. They call themselves “The Green Plug”.
The ingenuity of the festival comes from the geeks who, at Bosco Institute of Technology, with their extensive research, code all the games by themselves. To go live with a tech fest is no small task. Error mitigation and fighting off are often addressed in the meetings of Teknack.
Generally, you'd see volunteers working impulsively all around the campus. Not here, these geeks have their base set in a computer laboratory. Lost inside their screens with code, they nudge each other with every bug they find and shout out “yays” abruptly when their code works perfectly. Who knew a black and white screen could give that rush!
Other events include simulating the stock exchange (Virtual Stock Market), online treasure hunt, simulating web vulnerabilities (hack-n-trip), and many more. But you don’t have to be a computer geek or a technology wizard to take part in the events. Some events cater to people with different interests. They have “captcha”, for people with an ear for music, they have “acoustica”, for those with an eye for detail, they have “camouflage”, and for those who have a powerful imagination, they have the “Text adventure”. This isn’t all, they have many more interesting events to offer.
With 931 unique visitors last year spending an average of 31 minutes in one login, this year, the organizers estimate a participation from over 40 colleges in the city with students in the age group of 16-25, of which they have 750 registrations till date, from more than 20 colleges across over 10 states and expect an additional 250 registrations in the coming week.
Conclusion
Don Bosco Institute of Technology. These fests and all events at the college provide the students a lot of confidence about themselves, and they can become open-minded people, and they can become free from mental trauma. It helps the students to get a lot of knowledge about the industry trends and to know how to face future challenges.
